For most pregnant women who experiences nausea, or also known as morning sickness, the exact cause is unclear. it is said that the hormonal changes produced by the placenta and the fetus causes the vomiting and the nausea in the first few weeks of pregnancy. Another factor that may also play a role in morning sickness is the changes in gastrointestinal system because if the stomach is under the influence of the hormones of pregnancy, it tends to empty more slowly. About 70 percent of pregnant women are being afflicted by morning sickness. it usually starts at four to eight weeks of pregnancy stage and subsides by fourteen to sixteen weeks. even though there is the presence of the word morning in morning sickness, the vomiting and nausea may occur at any point of time of the day.

But for some experts, they agree that morning sickness does play a role within the pregnancy of women in one way or another. it is said that the fetus are being protected by the morning sickness. Chemical toxins that protect plants from being eaten can be found in many plants. Adults have extensive arrays of detoxification made by the liver and the surface of tissues of various organs which protects them against these types of toxins. these types of defenses are not yet completely formed within the fetus. Though adults can be affected by even just a small dose of these plant toxins, it might be lethal in the part of the fetus. Whenever pregnant women are exposed to the smell of taste of foods that may possibly contain toxins that might injure the fetus, pregnancy nausea causes the women to become nauseated in order to protect the fetus.

The mother is also being protected by the this so-called sickness as well. Most likely, to reduce the chances of rejecting tissues of their own baby, the immune system of a pregnant woman is suppressed. Because of this, pregnant women should not eat animal products containing parasites or harmful bacteria as it will put themselves in danger.

The good news is that mild to moderate nausea and occasional vomiting related with morning sickness won’t harm your baby’s health. There is also nothing to worry about if the pregnant woman doesn’t gain weight in the first trimester of pregnancy. as long as they are able to keep themselves hydrated and are not getting starved, the health of the fetus will not be affected. More often than not, the woman’s appetite will soon return to normal and they will start gaining weight.

Morning sickness can be tolerated pretty well by most women. they see to it that their health is not affected and they are letting their doctor’s know if ever there are problems that arise along the way. Young women who have their first pregnancy experience and women who carry two or more fetuses might experience morning sickness more as compared to others. There are some women who experience nausea and vomiting already late in their pregnancy stage and there are also a few who even experience it all through out their entire pregnancy period. Pregnant women should be aware that excessive or prolonged vomiting may result to greater risks of having preterm births. it may also result to newborns that are small for their age as well as it can also lead to low birth weight. if the doctor finds out that the pregnant woman is having problems with regards to morning sickness, the doctor may prescribe anti-nausea medication in order to keep the women away from dehydration and further complications.
